A Bit About Me
For starters, my name is Kayla, as I am sure you know based on that fact that you had to click my name to get here.
I work in a field completely unrelated to computers. The extent of my work with a computer involves checking email, creating documents, general use of the Internet.
On a personal note, I own two cats (Scotch and Soda) and a rabbit (Dexter). I also have a car (Charlize), it is silver and sparkles, which I find to be the most important attribute of any car.
My favourite colour is purple, I like to listen to music and play some video games, although it is painful for others to watch me do so, because I am not very good…
I also have some weeds in my front yard and around the side of my house… if you would like to tend to them for me, I would be forever thankful (but only if you kept doing it forever).
My Past Computer Experience
Before taking on my current position, I worked as a Data Entry Operator (pronounced general bitch work and IT) for a local retailer. I would say that I am pretty well versed in browsing the Internet. Almost all of my web searches actually turn up results related to what I am looking for.
My Past Experience With Free Software
It’s all free if you pirate it, right? I used to use Open Office at work because it was, well, free. I also use a lot of software that is free with donations to the makers of the software suggested. I have never donated… sorry to the people who have excellent software that I use. To those of you with poor software that I have used, make it better, that way I will at least feel guilty when I don’t give you my money.
Why I Agreed To This
It was suggested to me that more Guinea Pigs were needed. As it turns out, they did not mean cute, cuddly pets. Needless to say, I am somewhat disappointed.
What I Hope To Get Out Of It
I’m not entirely sure. Apparently we are supposed to be “giving back” to the community. I really just think the rest of the folks here think having me around will drive more traffic. I’ll try to keep my posts light hearted and fun, however I have been known to get pretty loud about things, so I may also just rant. What I really expect to get out of this is a better solution to Windows 8, which has been making me crazy.
What My Current Computer Setup Is
I have been informed that I’m not supposed to tell you what computer I use on a regular basis, but what I am going to be running Linux on. So, I guess the answer to that is, the one in the closet… it has a mother board, some RAM, a power supply, a hard drive, probably some dust. I’ll have to ask Jake B about the specifics.
Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30 GHz
RAM: 8.00 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Storage: Intel 180 GB SSD
Motherboard: Asus P67 Class
Display Device: Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 3020 running at 1080p
What Distribution Am I Running
I dunno… haven’t decided yet. I have heard that I should try out Ubuntu and Mint. I have used both, not as my primary though. I’ll decide tonight and post my thoughts and how install goes. Then I will update this.
