In my case my PC had been offline for 5 months (while at basic and AIT) and unplugged from the wall completely.
Turned it on, and found my graphics card was dead. Funny enough Ubuntu would still boot up just fine and some times I could even make out a little bit of text on the screen.
Replaced the card and all was well again. Was pissed even more though when I found it I was just 2 months out of the warranty period and would NOT get it replaced for free. Ugh!!
You’ve had quite a bit of luck with that box recently haven’t you?
I had that happen to me as well a few years back.
I was totally shocked and pissed.
